Asthma Supplies: Asthma Medicine Singulair

Review: The Asthma Medicine Known As 'Singulair'

The astma medicine Singulair (generic name: Montelukast) is a leukotriene receptor antagonist. Its main purpose is reducing swelling and/or inflammation of the airways, effectively relaxing the muscles around bronchial tubes. This, in turn, lets more air into patient's lungs, reducing the difficulty in breathing.

Important disclaimer: Singulair astma medication is virtually useless if used as a rescue or quick-relief drug. This asthma medication should never been used in that role. The first effects of taking Singulair show up too late to give any relief in case of the attack.

Dosage of the asthma medicine known as 'Singulair':

This asthma medication (Singulair/Montelukast) should be taken orally, a pill per day.

It does not matter if you take Singulair with or without food. To relieve or eliminate asthma attacks, it is recommended to take this medication in the evening (the asthma symptoms usually get worse during night).

If you take this medication for any other reason (allergies, for example), it doesn't really matter what time of a day you take it. In case you miss a dose, don't worry, just take it as soon as you can unless it is almost a time for another one. However, you mustn't take two doses at the same time!

Side effects of Singulair medicine:

The side effects of this medication vary and they may include such conditions as:

1. Abdominal or stomach pain

2. Diarrhea

3. Dizziness or disorientation

4. Ear or nasal infections

5. Muscle aches

6. Easy bleeding

... and many more. Fortunately, Singulair asthma medication's side effects do not happen very often. However if you suffer from any of side effects described above, quit taking Singulair immediately and consult your doctor as soon as possible.
